New Release — BEST OF THE WEST— Fourteen Western Stories

Grab a cup of coffee and settle down into your easy chair to ride the range with some of the most exciting tales of the Old West you’ll find anywhere! This collection is called BEST OF THE WEST for a very good reason—IT IS!

These fourteen stories will have you standing beside lawmen and outlaws as the bullets fly, saddling up some of the best horseflesh to be found West of the Mississippi, and wagering your livelihood on the turn of a card. Tales that include savvy swindles, gunfights, loves lost (and found!), the making of an outlaw and the secret protection of a president will draw you in and hang on tight.

This anthology is bustin’ with acclaimed Western authors such as James Reasoner, Livia J. Washburn, Jackson Lowry, Kit Prate, Charlie Steel, Richard Prosch, Big Jim Williams, Cheryl Pierson, J.L. Guin, Clay More, and David Amendola.

What are you waitin’ for, pardner? You’re burnin’ daylight! Happy trails!

  5. As a Brit I sort of feel that I sneaked onto this stage. It is a brilliant cover, by the way. I'm going to order some print copies, too, as soon as they are available this side of the Pond.

I was delighted to learn that one of my stories would be included in this collection. I salute the other fine authors for their inclusion.

    1. Jerry, I love that cover, too. Livia really outdid herself on that--SO intriguing, isn't it? Livia and I love putting these stories together and getting them out there for others to read. Lots of good entertainment between these pages!

  8. Thank you, Cheryl and Livia, for including my story in this anthology. I wrote it a few years back mostly for my own amusement, since it seemed like no one published westerns anymore.

    1. David, I loved your story--so different and unusual, and you had me wondering from start to finish at what in the world was going to happen. So glad you submitted it, and glad to have you with us!

    2. Maybe it being different and unusual has something to do with my literary influences. I love western films (Clint Eastwood) and true western history, but I don't actually read many fictional westerns. My favorite authors are Ian Fleming, Robert E. Howard, Frederick Forsythe, and J.R.R. Tolkien. Aside from Howard, none of them wrote westerns, and Howard's westerns are my least-favorite of his yarns. So perhaps because of that I approach the genre from a little different angle, so to speak.

    3. I always think it's neat to hear authors' favorite books, authors, and other influences on their writing. Like you, I love western films and also the tv westerns that I grew up watching. I didn't read westerns until much later on in life, with a few exceptions--but those westerns on the screen--large and small--really influenced me, as well as growing up in Oklahoma.

    2. Does that mean that MAYBE we could get you to write a little story from the wife's point of view to Jim's wonderful tale?

  10. Great cover. I can think of someone who just might like it for Christmas. I love the cover. It raises a lot of questions about what is happening.
